Paris Day 4: Les Invalides and Luxembourg Gardens

Paris Day 4: Les Invalides and Luxembourg Gardens

Somehow each day in Paris was better than the one before, which means that the last day ended up being my favorite. We went to Holy Belly for breakfast and I think this is our new favorite breakfast spot, sorry BIA. I got two scrambled eggs with baked beans, hash browns, bacon, and a carrot-orange juice. Joe got the savory pancakes and a cafe filtre and we loved everything. If you’re looking for more than a croissant for breakfast, this…

Paris Day 3: A Bike Tour and Montmartre

Paris Day 3: A Bike Tour and Montmartre

Sunday morning meant that it was time for the second of two things (the first was Père Lachaise) I absolutely had to do on this trip: go to the market. Specifically, Marché Bio Raspail in Saint Germain, which is a big part of the novel I’m working on. I woke up really early in order to go before breakfast before a 10:30am bike tour and when I got there some vendors were still setting up. It was a smaller version…

Paris Day 2: Lille and Relaxing

Paris Day 2: Lille and Relaxing

Since Joe and I have revisited Paris so many times, when we go we like to spend a day exploring a part of France we haven’t been before. I was considering a few options and eventually decided on a trip to Lille after reading a post about a day trip on Pardon Your French. Overall we were a bit disappointed and I really believe this was due to us being exhausted/sore and the weather being cold and dreary. I booked…

Paris Day 1: Père Lachaise Cemetery and the Louvre

Paris Day 1: Père Lachaise Cemetery and the Louvre

On Friday, the fifth day of our trip, we spent the morning at Disney before taking the RER to Paris. We checked in at our hotel, Hotel Aramis in Saint Germain, and went off to lunch at La Cantine du Troquet at the suggestion of the concierge. I had a new-to-me white fish, Joue de Lotte (monkfish cheek in English), in a bourguignon sauce. Joe and I both loved our meals and one of the employees was so incredibly kind…

What We Did in Paris

What We Did in Paris

Despite it being horrifically cold, we really did get to see and do some very awesome things. We took a bike tour where we got to see ancient Roman ruins and explore a new-to-us neighborhood, St-Germain. We did a walking food tour of Montmartre with Clotilde Dusoulier (my main bday present aside from actually going to Paris). We got to see and touch the most beautiful Iron Lady. We went to Musee d’Orsay and see beautiful paintings. I got to see…

Ascending the Sacre Coeur

Ascending the Sacre Coeur

Before planning for this trip, I didn’t even realize you could go up into the Sacre Coeur. After having a light lunch of soup around the corner, we went up the millions of steps to the top. We were rewarded with darling gargoyles and spectacular views. The weather was pretty gross for most of the trip but cleared up for a little while while we were up there. It was neat to learn that sixteen nuns live in one of…

What We Saw in Paris

What We Saw in Paris

We got to see so many more things on this trip than we were able to on previous trips to Paris. It was my third trip, Joe’s second, and our first time on our own without a tour group. We took a bike tour, my third and his second again, and this one was “Off the Beaten Path.” New sights included the Church of Saint-Sulpice, the church that was started in 1646 and never quite finished; beautiful Parisian doors; all kinds…

What We Ate in Paris

What We Ate in Paris

Instead of the usual Wednesday Whimsy post, I’m going to go ahead and get the worst photos of the Paris trip over with. Not all of them are awful, but you just can’t do much for indoor winter dinner photos, even in Paris. Well, I suppose someone could figure it out, but I’d rather eat. From the food tour of Montmartre that we did with Clotilde: Lunch at Le Petit Cler: Ladurée adventures: Lunch at Les Philosophes: Various Breakfast in…

Montmartre Cemetery

Montmartre Cemetery

So. many. cats! And so much blue. What a dreamy place this is. In keeping with having life revelations each time I’m in Paris, I dramatically decided what I want to do with my life and thought of a book idea in this very cemetery. I had planned to also visit Père Lachaise but I was just too tired and couldn’t physically cram another thing in. After seeing this beauty, it’s at the top of the list for my next…

My Birthday Trip to Paris

My Birthday Trip to Paris

In my defense, it was a trip for my 30th birthday. Oops, did I say that out loud? Originally I was thinking of going to Disneyland in California but then decided it wasn’t quite big enough for the big 3-0. I did a little research on flights to Paris and found some via Icelandair for $600 per person round trip and got Joe on board. We found an affordable Airbnb (the studio we stayed in is here) and suddenly my dream…
